Questions, answered

Straight answers, in plain words.

Everything people ask before they try it, and a few things they ask after. If yours isn’t here, write to [email protected] and a person answers.

The number

Do I need a special phone or line?

No. Get the LarLine app and pick a business number; it lives in the app. No smartphone handy? Point the number at any phone that takes calls and answer texts from a browser. The text-back works the same.

Can I keep my current number?

Not yet. You get a new business number to give out for work, and your personal cell stays yours. If you’d rather calls ring your cell than the app, that’s a switch in the app.

What area codes can I get?

US area codes. Pick the one your customers dial and choose from what is available in it.

The text-back

Is a robot texting my customers?

The text-back is your own words, sent the moment you miss a call. Everything after that is you. On Pro, LarLine drafts replies for you to read, and nothing goes out unless you tap Send.

What if I answer the call?

Nothing happens. It’s a normal call. LarLine only steps in when nobody picked up.

How fast is the text-back?

Seconds. It is sent the moment the missed call ends, and usually lands before the caller has put the phone down.

Will it text the same person over and over?

No. The text-back goes only to people who just called you, and at most once per caller per hour. It is a reply, never a campaign.

Calls

What do callers see?

Your LarLine number, never your cell. Same when you call them back from the app.

What happens after hours?

Set your hours once. Outside them your phone stays quiet: callers get voicemail and a text saying when you’re open, and it’s all waiting for you in the morning.

Are calls recorded?

No. Calls to your LarLine number are never recorded. Voicemails are kept, as audio and as a written transcript, so you can read them.

Can I call 911?

Not from your LarLine number. It’s a business line, and the app says so if you try. Use your cell for emergencies.

People and numbers

Can someone else answer with me?

Yes. Up to three people can sign in to the same number and see the same threads, so a partner or a dispatcher can answer when you can’t.

Can I add numbers for more work or a team?

Yes. Extra business numbers are $7 a month each, on either plan, added from the web.

Pro and privacy

What does Pro read, and who sees it?

On Pro, a language model on our hosting provider’s infrastructure reads your threads to draft replies and find promises. Your messages are never used to train anything and never go to another company. Basic uses no model at all. The privacy policy has the whole picture.

Billing

Am I locked into a contract?

No. Month to month, cancel from the app, and if it doesn’t earn its keep in the first 30 days we refund it.

What happens to my number if I cancel?

It is held for 30 days after your subscription ends. Come back in that window and it is yours again. After that it is released.

The app

Does it work on Android?

Yes, as a direct download while the Google Play listing is on its way. Create your account on the web first, then sign in on the phone. The iPhone app is on the App Store.

Still wondering?

Try it on your next missed call.

Ten minutes to set up, 30 days to decide, and a person at [email protected] if anything is unclear.
